This was posted on a friend of a friend of a friend's page over on FB,,, I didn't know how to link it,,, so I copied and pasted,,,, I put it here so I would know where to find it,,, but thought other's might like it too. Even without the colors,,, is a good way to reduce waste, (and spending for folks who use store bought logs) and keep warm.
Winter is coming and the hallow days are here. So a fun thing to do, and can be a romantic thing for you and a snuggle buddy, is to make color flame logs for the fire place.
Take paper and rip or shred. It Can be old bills, newspaper, even card board. Just get it down into strips. Fill a 1 gallon bucket half way with this in it.
Put 6 cups of water in it
Put in 1 cup of, (For red) Strontium Chloride or Strontium Nitrate
(For blue) Copper Chloride
(For green) Copper Sulfate or Boric Acid
(For Purple) Potassium Chloride
Let it soke overnight, with a lid on it. Then give it a good shake to mix it.
Place the shredded paper in the bucket and let it soke for 3 hours. Now place a piece of 2” PVC that is 1 foot long in a bucket, put on rubber gloves and take the soked paper and stuff it in the PVC tube. Pack it in. when tube is full and liquid is pressed out, take a broom handle or wooden dowel and push out the paper log.
this log will burn for a long time and make great colors for you at a party, camp out, or home with the honey. Make all one color or mix and mach. Have fun.
